Ukitake is one of the few Captains of the Shinigami to show Ben respect, along side his friend Kyoraku. Ben, in turn, holds Ukitake in high regard. When Ben was upset after Gin killed Aizen, Ukitake helped comfort him by telling him that he was the best of them, as none of them could have thought about simply stripping Aizen of his power and commented on how Ben should not have had to face the burden of a galactic defender at such a young age. He cares greatly for him, as it was him and Kyoraku who convinced Yamamoto to tell the Spirit King that Ben did not seek war against Soul Society.
